Long term landfill management strategy planning requires taking into account a wide range of factors affecting the process of waste degradation – the conditions inside the waste body and external effects (climatological and hydrological settings).
The resulting emission load in the time of landfill contaminating life span has to be controlled. Process oriented model is an important supporting element in designing the landfill structures, scheduling the maintenance and postclosure activities as well as in estimating their expected duration. Models enabling simulation of simultaneous occurring complex processes are gaining importance in recent years. A model describing the effect of solid phase composition and pore structure of the landfill on the conversion phenomena and multicomponent gas transport taking into account the simultaneously occurring settlement processes is presented.
