The energetic utilization of organic waste and renewable raw materials in anaerobic digestion plants (AD plants) as a climate neutral biogas has increased considerably within the last few years.
In the existing AD plants a completely good mixing of the bioreactors is rarely found. Furthermore the formation of zones without mixing (“dead zones”), sedimentation areas, short circuit flows and floating layers are, possible. These deficits adapt because stirring aggregates used in biogas plants often show unfavourable geometries, are not placed correctly in the AD tank, or are unsuitable for the type of application.
This has the consequence that available reactor volumes are used often only insufficiently or raw material leaves the biogas reactor without a sufficient reduction. On the one hand, the biogas yield is reduced by the insufficient anaerobic degradation of the raw material and on the other hand, methane emissions can have a negative effect on the environment of remaining material. Furthermore floating layers and sediment layers can be removed often only with a very big expenditure of work.

Rechtliche und praktische Unsicherheiten bei der Durchführung des europäischen Klimaanpassungsrechts durch das Bundes- Klimaanpassungsgesetz (KAnG)
© Lexxion Verlagsgesellschaft mbH (6/2025)
In the context of the European Climate Law (EU) 2021/1119), the Governance Regulation (EU) 2018/1999 and the Nature Restoration Regulation (EU) 2024/1991, the KAnG came into force on July 1, 2024.
Transformatives Klimarecht: Raum, Zeit, Gesellschaft

This article contends that climate law should be conceived as inherently transformative in a double sense. The law not only guides the necessary transformation of economy and society, but is itself undergoing transformation.
