Landfill operation and control with help of multidimensional predictive modeling - organic mass transition and gas generation

SUMMARY:
Receiving electrical energy generated from landfill biogas is recognized as a renewable resource. The main components methane and carbon dioxide as a natural byproducts of waste biodegradation cause the green house effect. Knowledge of the amount and composition of the landfill gas generated is essential for further optimization of facility management. A highly capable option represent predictions based on models and verified by experiments which are fast and flexible.

An experimentally verified multi-dimensional predictive model describing the influence of the composition and pore structure of the landfill body on the conversion phenomena and gas transport inside the landfill were developed. The model is based on the theory of porous media for a saturated thermo-elastic porous body. Simultaneously occurring processes organic phase transition, gas and heat transport in solid waste deposited in a landfill were simulated. Experimental investigations of mechanical biologically pre-treated municipal solid waste in terms of material composition and gas permeability provided a credible data bases by model developing and verification.

In the context of the European Climate Law (EU) 2021/1119), the Governance Regulation (EU) 2018/1999 and the Nature Restoration Regulation (EU) 2024/1991, the KAnG came into force on July 1, 2024.

Transformatives Klimarecht: Raum, Zeit, Gesellschaft

This article contends that climate law should be conceived as inherently transformative in a double sense. The law not only guides the necessary transformation of economy and society, but is itself undergoing transformation.
