In flue gas desulphurization processes which use ammonia as sorbent, the by-product typically consists of ammonia-sulphur compounds and ideally can be used as a fertilizer.
If the desulphurization product is separated together with the fly ash from the flue gas, the increased content of heavy metals can prohibit a general use. In this paper a new route for utilization is described for a desulphurization residue produced in the refinery of Schwechat. Due to the fly ash content the residue has higher concentrations of vanadium and nickel and hence has to be disposed of as hazardous waste underground. During the research it was shown, that this desulphurization residue is suitable for reduction of nitrogen oxides in the flue gas of a cement plant.

Like all public international law treaties, the Paris Climate Accords rely on national law for their implementation. The success of the agreement therefore depends, to a large extent, on the stepstaken or not taken by national governments and legislators as well as on the instruments and mechanisms chosen for this task. Against this background, the present article compares different approaches to the implementation of the Paris Agreement, using court decisions as a means to assess their (legal) effectiveness.
