As a result of increasing scarcity of resources and anthropogenic environmental impact recycling strategies gain importance in waste management.
With the thematic strategy on the prevention and recycling of waste the European Commission aims at the long-term goal to become a recycling society, that seeks to avoid waste and uses waste as a resource. The contribution of waste management to conservation of resources is depending on the degree of substitution of primary resources by waste products. However, a recycling of high value is bound by high quality standards for the recycling products. The coupling between waste management necessitate to optimise recycling strategies and to define quality criteria for secondary products.

Like all public international law treaties, the Paris Climate Accords rely on national law for their implementation. The success of the agreement therefore depends, to a large extent, on the stepstaken or not taken by national governments and legislators as well as on the instruments and mechanisms chosen for this task. Against this background, the present article compares different approaches to the implementation of the Paris Agreement, using court decisions as a means to assess their (legal) effectiveness.
