Towards the 7th Framework Programme - Research Needs in Composting of Biowaste

On invitation of the European Commission’s Environmental Technologies and Pollution Prevention Unit, waste experts were offered the chance to outline their views on important research topics for the EC’s 7th Environment Framework Programme (FP7).

Compost, research areas, 7th Environment Framework Programme, composting process, compost quality, compost application

The FP7 establishes priority research areas and budgets for the period of 2007–2013. Its overarching aim is to contribute to sustainable development. ‘Waste treatment and recycling’ is studied under the heading ‘environmental technologies’, which is one of nine themes set for the EU action on Environment (including Climate Change). In this context – with the support of other organic waste specialists – important aspects of actual research areas in biowaste composting and compost application are summarized.

Against this background, the present article compares different approaches to the implementation of the Paris Agreement, using court decisions as a means to assess their (legal) effectiveness.
