SUMMARY:
The application of on-farm composts is recommended to organic farmers as probably the most suitable ways of disposing wastes and increasing the amount of soil organic matter. However, an environmentally sound management of the use of these composts in organic farming demands a better knowledge of the rate of release of available nitrogen (N) from compost-amended soils to achieve both economic and environmental benefits.
So, a 4-month laboratorial aerobic incubation study was conducted in a sandy loam soil, under controlled conditions, to determine the nitrogen (N) mineralization rates of 5 on-farm composts and 3 commercial fertilizers all of them fulfilling the requirements for organic farming. Results show that no significant release of N occurred from the on-farm composts and at the end of the incubation study only 1.9-12% of the organic N added was mineralized. On the contrary for the commercial fertilizers mineralization occurred more intensively at the initial stages of the incubation, and at the end of this period the mineralization rates varied in a range between 26.6-42.5%. Incubation data were well described by the one-pool exponential mineralization model proposed by Stanford and Smith (1972), to estimate potentially mineralisable nitrogen from different mixtures of soil plus organic farming fertilizers.

Like all public international law treaties, the Paris Climate Accords rely on national law for their implementation. The success of the agreement therefore depends, to a large extent, on the stepstaken or not taken by national governments and legislators as well as on the instruments and mechanisms chosen for this task. Against this background, the present article compares different approaches to the implementation of the Paris Agreement, using court decisions as a means to assess their (legal) effectiveness.
