Compost quality assessment by means of FTIR spectroscopy and thermal analysis – statistical methods for practical application

SUMMARY:
Stability and humification represent crucial quality criteria for organic matter in compost. Due to the benefits afforded by humic substances in soils, the humic acid contents of composts were determined. Quality control was performed using infrared spectroscopy and thermal analysis to provide information on stability of organic matter.

Multivariate data analysis supported interpretation and evaluation of infrared spectra. Cluster analysis enabled classification of organic waste on the basis of composition, process operation and stability. By means of Partial Least Squares Regression (PLSR) humic acid concentrations were predicted according to infrared spectroscopic characteristics. Thermal analysis (Thermogravimetry TG and Differential Scanning Calorimetry DSC) also characterises the stability of organic waste matter. A correlation between infrared spectra and energy contents has been demonstrated.

Die innerstaatliche Umsetzung des Pariser Klimaschutzübereinkommens - ein Rechtsvergleich

Like all public international law treaties, the Paris Climate Accords rely on national law for their implementation. The success of the agreement therefore depends, to a large extent, on the stepstaken or not taken by national governments and legislators as well as on the instruments and mechanisms chosen for this task. Against this background, the present article compares different approaches to the implementation of the Paris Agreement, using court decisions as a means to assess their (legal) effectiveness.
