SUMMARY: In Germany various waste management systems have been established during the last two decades. They include a high standard of separate collection and treatment of residual waste.
Since June 2005, landfilling of untreated wastes in Germany is not allowed and recycling and energy recovery are to be given a higher priority. In order to achieve these goals and sustain the current environmental standards, new waste management strategies have to be developed and evaluated in order to quantify their performance. The presentation will show the role and evaluation of biological waste management in the frame of these new strategies for waste management.

Like all public international law treaties, the Paris Climate Accords rely on national law for their implementation. The success of the agreement therefore depends, to a large extent, on the stepstaken or not taken by national governments and legislators as well as on the instruments and mechanisms chosen for this task. Against this background, the present article compares different approaches to the implementation of the Paris Agreement, using court decisions as a means to assess their (legal) effectiveness.
