Pilot research on source separation and utilisation of bioorganic municipal waste (BMW) in China

Chinese household waste contains at least twice as much bioorganic matter as it is the case in central European countries. Therefore Bioorganic Municipal Waste Management (BMWM) is highly relevant to further improve the current waste disposal practice in China.

chicken manure, agglomeration, pellet

The Sino-German project ‘Resource Recovery and Utilisation of Bioorganic Municipal Waste - RRU-BMW’, supported by CIM/GTZ, University of Weimar and Liaoning Province Science and Technology Bureau, ongoing since 2004 in Shenyang, is the first project considering separate collection and treatment of BMW in urban Chinese areas. The results regarding the public participation in BMW source separation are promising after a one year field test. The bio-organic and the remaining waste fraction are both found to be a valuable potential source for energy, clean compost or RDF.

Like all public international law treaties, the Paris Climate Accords rely on national law for their implementation. The success of the agreement therefore depends, to a large extent, on the stepstaken or not taken by national governments and legislators as well as on the instruments and mechanisms chosen for this task. Against this background, the present article compares different approaches to the implementation of the Paris Agreement, using court decisions as a means to assess their (legal) effectiveness.
