Volcanic soils of southern Chile have demonstrated a great capacity to adsorb environmental pollutants.

For industrial applications in wastewater treatment facilities, a stable ceramic material was produced. The proposed process is based on the generation of a volcanic soil-polyurethane foam made with recycled PET-polyols.

The selected foam formula with 35.4 % volcanic soil (< 63µm) seems to be the most suitable for thermal treatment, with temperature steps at 700 °C, 850 °C, 1000 °C and 1200 °C. Possible, suggested uses of this ceramic material could be its introduction in advanced or tertiary wastewater treatment facilities in pulp and paper mills and leather tanneries, as well as in sanitary landfill leachate depuration processes. Another possible application could be as filling materials in reactive walls ("funnel & gate systems) for cleaning up groundwater.

Like all public international law treaties, the Paris Climate Accords rely on national law for their implementation. The success of the agreement therefore depends, to a large extent, on the stepstaken or not taken by national governments and legislators as well as on the instruments and mechanisms chosen for this task. Against this background, the present article compares different approaches to the implementation of the Paris Agreement, using court decisions as a means to assess their (legal) effectiveness.
