During the last years, noticeable changes in the availability of mineral raw materials (e.g. ores, coal) were observed due to an enormous raw material demand of developing countries (e.g. China). Subsequently, a sensible scarcity of raw materials, highly competitive markets and a significant aggravated accessibility to mineral resources have been noticed.
One possibility for exploitation of secondary raw materials represents landfill mining, as landfill sites can containsignificant amounts of potentially recyclable and recoverable energy materials (REM). Therefore, to estimate the secondary raw material potential (resource potential) of Austrian sanitary landfills, one landfill site was chosen for closer investigation based on defined criteria (e.g. infrastructure). The scope of this investigation constituted a waste characterization by realization of sieving and sorting analyses. Based on the idea of winning potential secondary raw materials out of old landfill bodies, it is assumed that especially metals, glass, minerals and a fraction with a high net calorific value are qualified for recycling and recovery.

Like all public international law treaties, the Paris Climate Accords rely on national law for their implementation. The success of the agreement therefore depends, to a large extent, on the stepstaken or not taken by national governments and legislators as well as on the instruments and mechanisms chosen for this task. Against this background, the present article compares different approaches to the implementation of the Paris Agreement, using court decisions as a means to assess their (legal) effectiveness.
