According to the presented monitoring system, the functionality of the individual components of the temporary surface cover system in Rastorf (Schleswig-Holstein) can be permanently monitored and evaluated under in-situ conditions.
The soil properties and climatic conditions (precipitation, evapotranspiration) as well as the development of vegetation have a parent influence on the water balance. Considering the expected seasonal and permanent structural changes in the form of shrinkage and settlement a critical crack formation cannot be excluded (Heerten 2007).
