The effect of municipal organic waste compost on the spring barley

Organic household waste composts can be used as an agricultural soil conditioner or fertiliser when it is processed and certified according to the recognised composting standards. In addition to the compost quality its fertilisation effect may depend on the spreading technology. The aim of our study was to evaluate the effect of source-separated organic household waste and category III animal by-products compost on the spring barley yield and yield quality.

Compost was applied in three norms according to Ntot (200, 275 and 350 kg ha-1) in three replications in 2012 and 2013. The experiment was established on sandy loam Stagnic Albeluvisol (WRB). Compost was applied into soil depth 22 cm by autumn ploughing. Compost quality differed in the two consecutive years. In 2012 dry matter was 64%, Ctot 19%, Ntot 3,27%, Ptot 1,04%, Ktot 0,97%, in 2013 dry matter was 38%, Ctot 32%, Ntot 3,34%, Ptot 3,08%, Ktot 0,87%. Relatively high Ntot content in compost resulted low app lication quantities (10, 13 ja 17 t ha-1 in 2012 and 16, 22 ja 28 t ha-1 in 2013). The compost increased barley yield 0,79-1,02 t ha-1 in 2012 and 0,60-0,80 t ha-1 in 2013 depending on the application norm. The increase was not statistically significant compared to control plots which might be resulted of taking the easily released nutrients into deeper soil layers in the early stage of barley development. The effect of compost on barley quality parameters was not significant. Only number of productive and vegetative sprouts depended on compost norm significantly giving more productive sprouts on plots with compost.

Like all public international law treaties, the Paris Climate Accords rely on national law for their implementation. The success of the agreement therefore depends, to a large extent, on the stepstaken or not taken by national governments and legislators as well as on the instruments and mechanisms chosen for this task. Against this background, the present article compares different approaches to the implementation of the Paris Agreement, using court decisions as a means to assess their (legal) effectiveness.
