Landfill Mining - Goldmines on the Outskirts?

Raw materials, such as steel and energy are becoming scarcer due to the steady growth of the world population and the resulting consumption change. Hence, it is expected that the prices of primary and secondary raw materials will rise in the future even more than in the present.

Before this background, house garbage dumps represent unused raw material depots whose resource potential is largely unknown. Within the scope of this work is indicated which material, energetic and ecological potential these "depots" own, using the garbage dump site Dyckerhoffbruch as an example.
In connection with this, on landfills like Dyckerhoffbruch all material fractions, which arise in our separate collection system today, have to be suspected within the landfill body. This means that landfills represent anthropogenic storages of raw materials whose content is dependent on the use and the utilization time. It is expected, that the use of raw materials contained in landfills is economically with increasing raw material scarcity and prices.
The Aim of this project is to answer the central question: Under which boundary conditions could the ecologically compatible processing and usage of deposited resources be more economic as well as more efficiently used than the future costs of landfill closure and aftercare?
Because of the above mentioned fact, on the basis of 20 test drillings, the quantitative and qualitativ resource value of the dump segment I of the landfill Dyckerhoffbruch is presently examined by the Institute of Waste and Resource Management. Primary aim is the production of a three dimensional resource potential model of the landfill body, whose Hotspots illustrate the exact picture of the available resources.

Die innerstaatliche Umsetzung des Pariser Klimaschutzübereinkommens - ein Rechtsvergleich

Like all public international law treaties, the Paris Climate Accords rely on national law for their implementation. The success of the agreement therefore depends, to a large extent, on the stepstaken or not taken by national governments and legislators as well as on the instruments and mechanisms chosen for this task. Against this background, the present article compares different approaches to the implementation of the Paris Agreement, using court decisions as a means to assess their (legal) effectiveness.
