The Provincial Waste Management Plan Styria 2010 (L-AWP 2010) has been conceptualized and prepared as an evaluation and update of the previous L-AWP 2005 by the Provincial Government of Styria. According to the statutory provisions of the Styrian Waste Management Act 2004 the L-AWP 2010 addresses the following topics:
ï‚· current municipal waste volumes
ï‚· treatment facilities
ï‚· municipal waste prognosis
ï‚· targets for sustainable waste and material flow management
ï‚· strategies for waste prevention and waste treatment
The waste management-related observations are based on waste-related data from the years 2003 to 2008. They include not only non-hazardous municipal waste, which is covered by provincial legislation, but also those waste types which are dealt with by communal collection and treatment structures together with municipal waste. This allows for the presentation of an extensive picture of Styrian waste management, the continued illustration of waste volumes and the identification of the most important requirements for future development.

Like all public international law treaties, the Paris Climate Accords rely on national law for their implementation. The success of the agreement therefore depends, to a large extent, on the stepstaken or not taken by national governments and legislators as well as on the instruments and mechanisms chosen for this task. Against this background, the present article compares different approaches to the implementation of the Paris Agreement, using court decisions as a means to assess their (legal) effectiveness.
