Compared to other treatment options for mixed municipal solid waste, the pure aerobic MBT cannot exploit the energy of the organic fraction, since it is simply biologically oxidized with the aim of inertization.
Converting the process to biological drying provides a material from which an organic high calorific fraction can be separated by established mechanical means. The shortened biological treatment time means that composting capacity is made available to treat biowaste or fermentation residues. Necessary adaptations of MBT facilities can be financed by revenues from this additional treatment. This integrated co-treatment activates an amount of energy from the organic material in the mixed waste which is 2-3 times higher than the energy content of the biowaste itself.

Like all public international law treaties, the Paris Climate Accords rely on national law for their implementation. The success of the agreement therefore depends, to a large extent, on the stepstaken or not taken by national governments and legislators as well as on the instruments and mechanisms chosen for this task. Against this background, the present article compares different approaches to the implementation of the Paris Agreement, using court decisions as a means to assess their (legal) effectiveness.
