Assessment criteria for local reductions in wall thickness in high-pressure gas pipelines which are in operation

Local reductions in wall thickness of high-pressure gas pipelines which are in operation often lead to problems in assessing of integrity, as no clear specifications exist within German regulations. The DVGW commissioned an investigation of the existing procedures dealing with this subject. The results of the investigation are presented.

In practice, the location of local reductions in wall thickness in high-pressure gas pipelines which are in operation often leads to problems in assessing of integrity, as no clear specifi cations exist within the German regulations. The DVGW’s (German Association for Gas and Water) gas transportation pipelines TC (technical committee) has decided to deal with this matter to clarify the above mentioned question. Prior to the final decision on the execution of an extensive R&D project, however, a preliminary investigation based on literature research was commissioned. This preliminary investigation was carried out as DVGW R&D project G 2/01/05 'Assessment criteria for local reductions in wall thickness in highpressure gas pipelines which are in operationâ€. The main content of the investigation was to investigate existing procedures which can be easily applied in practice.

Like all public international law treaties, the Paris Climate Accords rely on national law for their implementation. The success of the agreement therefore depends, to a large extent, on the stepstaken or not taken by national governments and legislators as well as on the instruments and mechanisms chosen for this task. Against this background, the present article compares different approaches to the implementation of the Paris Agreement, using court decisions as a means to assess their (legal) effectiveness.
