Evaluation of sewage sludge production patterns in Greece in the frame of integrated material and energy recovery

This paper provides an insight on how Greece deals with the treatment of sewage sludge, now and in the future; initially, it summarizes country-specific conditions regarding existing and planned sewage treatment plants and the challenge of tertiary treatment process.

37 sewage treatment plants, with a population equivalent around 1.6 million, located throughout Greece were investigated during this study in order to determine the sludge production during secondary and tertiary process. The average sludge production rate for these 37 plants was estimated at around 0.04 kg DS per capita per day; with an average wastewater production rate was 246 lt per capita and day. The annual cost of overall tertiary treatment process was calculated at 0.24 €/m3, indicating the relatively high cost of these processes. Nevertheless, such processes seem to be often required in order to produce an effluent with a high reuse and acceptability potential.

Die innerstaatliche Umsetzung des Pariser Klimaschutzübereinkommens - ein Rechtsvergleich

Like all public international law treaties, the Paris Climate Accords rely on national law for their implementation. The success of the agreement therefore depends, to a large extent, on the stepstaken or not taken by national governments and legislators as well as on the instruments and mechanisms chosen for this task. Against this background, the present article compares different approaches to the implementation of the Paris Agreement, using court decisions as a means to assess their (legal) effectiveness.
