Evaluation of the antioxidant response in liver of carp (Cyprinus carpio) injected intraperitoneally with concentrated drinking water from local aquifers

Two drinking-water production plants located in North Italy collecting water from the local aquifers were chosen for this study and chlorine dioxide was used as disinfectant at both plants (plant 1 and plant 2). Drinking water samples were collected in different pipeline sites, concentrated and then injected intraperitoneally at a concentration of 3 L/equiv. in Cyprinus carpio.

Total glutathione, glutathione peroxidase, glutathione reductase, catalase, glutathione S-transferase, glyoxalases were evaluated in cytosolic fractions of carp liver after 3 and 6 days. An oxidative stress condition was recorded in carp from both water plants, but particularly in those from water plant 1 (all collecting sites), in which was found a lowering of the antioxidant defences. The presence of  by-products, generated using the chlorinated disinfectant ClO2, and other contaminants in this water, might be responsible for the observed biological responses in carp liver.

Like all public international law treaties, the Paris Climate Accords rely on national law for their implementation. The success of the agreement therefore depends, to a large extent, on the stepstaken or not taken by national governments and legislators as well as on the instruments and mechanisms chosen for this task. Against this background, the present article compares different approaches to the implementation of the Paris Agreement, using court decisions as a means to assess their (legal) effectiveness.
