Growth, accumulation and antioxidant response in juvenile carp (Cyprinus carpio) fed a selenium diet

The effects of two Se diets (HSe 1.0 mg kg-1 and LSe 0.25 mg kg-1) were investigated on growth, accumulation and antioxidant response in juveniles of Cyprinus carpio at 0, 30 and 60 days. HSe carp had slightly higher mean weight (W) values than LSe group at 60 days and the Fulton condition factor (K) indicated good fish health for both diet groups.

HSe caused a significant Se accumulation in kidney and liver. Se enhanced the endogenous antioxidant capacity by increasing the glutathione content in HSe liver and kidney. Higher glutathione peroxidase activity was also recorded in both HSe tissues, while higher superoxide dismutase and catalase activities were noted only in HSe liver when compared with LSe carp. Although growth was not impaired in carp, oxidative stress indicators changed differently in both HSe tissues, suggesting that liver and kidney may have a dissimilar susceptibility to oxidative stress induced by the prooxidant factor of Se.

Die innerstaatliche Umsetzung des Pariser Klimaschutzübereinkommens - ein Rechtsvergleich

Like all public international law treaties, the Paris Climate Accords rely on national law for their implementation. The success of the agreement therefore depends, to a large extent, on the stepstaken or not taken by national governments and legislators as well as on the instruments and mechanisms chosen for this task. Against this background, the present article compares different approaches to the implementation of the Paris Agreement, using court decisions as a means to assess their (legal) effectiveness.
