This study was performed in order to optimize hydrogen production from organic fractions of municipal solid waste originated from separate collection and olive mill wastewater.
The aim was pursued performing batch and semi-continuous tests. Batch tests were carried out adopting different percentage of olive mill wastewater in the mixture, in order to identify the optimal mixing ratio in terms of maximum achievable hydrogen production. The results of the batch tests show that the mixture containing 20% olive mill wastewater is characterized by a specific production of 98.6 Nl H2/kg TVSrem and a maximum percentage of hydrogen of 63% v/v. On the base of the indications provided by the results of the batch tests, a second run was carried out operating the digesters as semi-continuous reactors, daily fed with a mixture containing 20% olive mill wastewater; the resulting organic loading rate (OLR) was 16 kg TVS/m3 d. A hydraulic retention time (HRT) of 4 days was adopted. The results show that a specific production of 117 Nl H2/kg TVSrem, an average TVS removal efficiency of 22% and an average hydrogen content in the produced biogas equal to 42% by volume can be achieved.

Like all public international law treaties, the Paris Climate Accords rely on national law for their implementation. The success of the agreement therefore depends, to a large extent, on the stepstaken or not taken by national governments and legislators as well as on the instruments and mechanisms chosen for this task. Against this background, the present article compares different approaches to the implementation of the Paris Agreement, using court decisions as a means to assess their (legal) effectiveness.
