By means of Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) modelings, this paper aims at providing an evaluation of the environmental performances achieved by six landfilling technologies and at identifying the related environmental benefits and drawbacks.
Landfills have developed dramatically over the last decades; from open dumps to engineered facilities with extensive control over landfill emissions to the environment. The socalled 'conventional landfilling technologies†adopt measures to reduce groundwater contamination from leachate emissions and to reduce emissions of greenhouse and ozone depleting gases. In order to further reduce environmental impacts from leachate and gas emissions new waste landfilling technologies have been developed, including bioreactor and semi-aerobic technologies.

Like all public international law treaties, the Paris Climate Accords rely on national law for their implementation. The success of the agreement therefore depends, to a large extent, on the stepstaken or not taken by national governments and legislators as well as on the instruments and mechanisms chosen for this task. Against this background, the present article compares different approaches to the implementation of the Paris Agreement, using court decisions as a means to assess their (legal) effectiveness.
