Tracer tests on wastes are a useful tool to help in the understanding of the contaminant transport processes of wastes and the controls over the long term flushing of contaminants from landfills. There is a need to understand how the bulk engineering properties of wastes (e.g. composition, processing, waste density etc) affect their contaminant transport properties, and for this improved tracer tests are required at a variety of scales. The research described in this paper compares the transport properties of the same MSW waste under 50 kPa and 150 kPa total compressive stress, and investigates the use of multiple tracers (Li, Br- and Deuterium - D2O) in a unique closedloop configuration, in contrast to a standard column tracer test.
It is desirable to understand major engineering controls upon waste transport properties in order that flushing of solutes from wastes can be better predicted and so that enhanced management strategies can be devised. This experiment aimed to compare the transport properties of a degraded MSW waste under two different applied loads equivalent to a depth of landfill of approximately 5 m and 15 m. A novel closed-loop configuration to the tracer test was adopted, which had a number of advantages. Three tracers were used simultaneously with the ultimate aim of achieving enhanced process diagnosis.

Like all public international law treaties, the Paris Climate Accords rely on national law for their implementation. The success of the agreement therefore depends, to a large extent, on the stepstaken or not taken by national governments and legislators as well as on the instruments and mechanisms chosen for this task. Against this background, the present article compares different approaches to the implementation of the Paris Agreement, using court decisions as a means to assess their (legal) effectiveness.
