DEVELOPMENT OF A CONTROL SYSTEM FOR ANAEROBIC DIGESTERS

Due to continuously increasing prices for fossil energy sources and a greater awareness for the need to protect the atmosphere, biogas technology is getting more and more important. At the end of 2005, German biogas plants produced about 650 MW of electrical energy. The German biogas association estimates that this output could increase to 9,500 MW in 2020, representing about 17 per cent of the total German generation of electricity (Fachverband Biogas e.V., 2006). (Session A8: Biological treatment - anaerobic digestion (I))

Efficiency enhancement is an important aspect of biogas technology. This report describes a control concept to run a digester equipped with a fuzzy logic controlled substrate feeding at a high loading rate and to ensure safety against biological overloading simultaneously. A fully automated anaerobic test system was installed. A proportional-integral-derivative controller (PID controller) and a fuzzy logic controller were programmed for this plant. Further experiments will be made to optimize the control devices and to evaluate their features in practice.

Die innerstaatliche Umsetzung des Pariser Klimaschutzübereinkommens - ein Rechtsvergleich

Like all public international law treaties, the Paris Climate Accords rely on national law for their implementation. The success of the agreement therefore depends, to a large extent, on the stepstaken or not taken by national governments and legislators as well as on the instruments and mechanisms chosen for this task. Against this background, the present article compares different approaches to the implementation of the Paris Agreement, using court decisions as a means to assess their (legal) effectiveness.
